The army said it had brought the situation under control.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a statement, the army said: \u201cOn Saturday afternoon, an explosion occurred at one of the ammunition depots belonging to the Ordnance and Ammunition Corps. It was followed by limited additional explosions caused by friction between some of the munitions inside the depot.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The army added that it had fully contained the incident and secured the area.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Residents reported that the explosions at the Ordnance Corps facility in the Al-Kadaru area north of Khartoum damaged homes in the surrounding suburb and triggered panic and fear among the population.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>They said the sound of the explosions was heard in locations some distance from the military base, while thick columns of smoke could be seen from far away.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Explosions at a Sudanese Armed Forces base north of the capital, Khartoum, on Saturday caused panic among residents and damaged several homes.
