{"id":7182,"date":"2023-12-08T19:39:40","date_gmt":"2023-12-08T19:39:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/?p=7182"},"modified":"2023-12-08T19:39:40","modified_gmt":"2023-12-08T19:39:40","slug":"south-sudans-troops-leave-drc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/index.php\/2023\/12\/08\/south-sudans-troops-leave-drc\/","title":{"rendered":"South Sudan&#8217;s Troops Leave DRC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sudan Events \u2013 Sumaya Sayed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over 250 South Sudanese soldiers left on Friday the Democratic Republic of Congo&#8217;s east.<\/p>\n<p>The contingent left in three rotations throughout the day, according to a military source.<\/p>\n<p>The soldiers took off from Goma, bound for Juba.<\/p>\n<p>After the Kenyans, the South Sudanese are the latest group from an East African Community (EAC) regional force to withdraw from eastern DRC.<\/p>\n<p>The regional force includes Uganda, and Burundi who are set to leave in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The seven-nation EAC first deployed troops in the violence-plagued eastern DRC in November 2022. They deployed at the invitation of the DRC authorities and were tasked with overseeing the withdrawal of M23 fighters from eastern DRC.<\/p>\n<p>But the DRC&#8217;s President and local residents accused the force of cohabiting with the rebels rather than forcing them to lay down arms.
