\nAlves is accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside a nightclub in Barcelona in December 2022.
\nThe former Barcelona right-back has been in pretrial detention since last January, and a court refused to release him on bail, citing the risk of his escape.
\nAlves denied committing any wrongdoing, and claimed that he had a consensual relationship with the woman.
\nThe investigating judge charged him last August, and the court said there was sufficient evidence to begin the trial.
\nProsecutors are demanding a 9-year prison sentence for him, while the alleged victim’s lawyers want him to spend 12 years behind bars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
