{"id":9121,"date":"2023-12-24T20:04:27","date_gmt":"2023-12-24T20:04:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/?p=9121"},"modified":"2023-12-25T08:06:14","modified_gmt":"2023-12-25T08:06:14","slug":"terrorism-austria-detains-suspected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/index.php\/2023\/12\/24\/terrorism-austria-detains-suspected\/","title":{"rendered":"Terrorism: Austria Detains Suspected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sudan Events \u2013 Sumaya Sayed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Austria on Sunday said three people were detained for suspected involvement in an \u201cextremist network,\u201d as Vienna and Cologne step up police controls citing heightened security concerns during Christmas.<br \/>\nGerman police are carrying out strict controls at the entry of the cathedral in the western city of Cologne following a \u201cdanger warning\u201d for New Year\u2019s Eve.<br \/>\nAustrian police have also stepped-up checks, especially around churches, religious events and Christmas markets in Vienna, citing an \u201cincreased risk.\u201d<br \/>\nAustrian authorities \u201cintervening in an extremist network\u201d made four arrests Saturday, the interior ministry said Sunday.<br \/>\nA ministry spokesman said of the four, three had been detained pending further investigations.<br \/>\n\u201cThere was no immediate threat of an attack in Vienna,\u201d he told AFP, declining to comment further.<br \/>\nAccording to the German daily Bild, one arrest was also made in Germany.<br \/>\nThe arrested suspects are said to be Tajiks who allegedly wanted to carry out attacks for ISIS in Khorasan Province (ISIS\u2013K), an ISIS offshoot in Afghanistan, Bild reported.<br \/>\n\u201cTerrorist actors across Europe are calling for attacks on Christian events &#8212; especially around December 24th,\u201d Vienna police said in a statement.<br \/>\nBesides Austria and Germany, Spain also received indications that a terrorist group was planning several attacks in Europe, possibly on New Year\u2019s Eve and Christmas, Bild said.<br \/>\nAccording to the newspaper, the targets of these attacks could be Christmas masses in Cologne, Vienna and Madrid.<br \/>\nIn July, a cell of suspected extremists from (ISIS\u2013K) was dismantled in Germany and the Netherlands.<br \/>\nThose arrested in Germany were said at the time to have been planning an attack in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sudan Events \u2013 Sumaya Sayed Austria on Sunday said three people were detained for suspected involvement in an \u201cextremist network,\u201d as Vienna and Cologne step up police controls citing heightened security concerns during Christmas.
