Police: Clarification on Atbara Weapons Seizure
Sudan Events-Follow-ups
The Director of the Nile River State Police, Major General Salman Mohamed Al-Tayeb, has refuted as incorrect reports about raids and seizure of weapons in the airport neighbourhoods.
He described in a meeting of the state police command body in Atbara today (Wednesday), Al-Tayeb these reports being circulated as baseless rumors.
He explained that the Al-Wahda neighborhood in Atbara witnessed a major and usual security campaign that resulted in the arrest of 17 accused habitual criminals, in addition to large quantities of homemade liquor and the removal of a number of random structures. The Airport neighborhood was not part of that security campaign, he asserted.
Al-Tayeb confirmed that the state police forces will continue to implement intensive security campaigns in all localities in implementation of the decisions of the state security committee and all approved security plans.
During the meeting, the Director of the State Police was briefed on the progress of work and the major security preparations to protect the state and its citizens, and listened to administrative and criminal reports, in addition to the performance reports of the Narcotics Control and Crossing Points Security Departments.
Al-Tayeb warned against circulating rumors that aim to create confusion and panic among citizens. He also warned rumor mongers that the emergency orders issued by the state governor holds them under legal accountability.
