The second edition of the Marrakech African Book Festival (FLAM) will be held from February 8 to 11, the organizers announced during a press conference held in Casablanca.
The Marrakech African Book Festival is a celebration of African literature and culture. Intended for all audiences and all ages, the FLAM is freely accessible for four days, in all reception sites, the aim being to bring culture and art closer to both enthusiasts and those who are interested in feel distant from it.
FLAM “is a major literary festival, marked by the presence of more than 50 African writers, Afro-descendants as well as the African diaspora,” festival president Mahi Binebine told the press.
For this 2nd edition, the festival has been relocated, he said, specifying that several authors will meet students and young people, notably at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), the Cadi Ayyad University , as well as in schools in Marrakech.
“Despite the proximity and geographical unity of the African continent, people do not speak to each other,” argued Ms. Wane-Sagna, co-organizer of FLAM, stressing that this is notably due to the “lack of circulation of imagination.”
The FLAM 2024 program includes the organization of literary cafés, interviews, signings, a pop-up bookstore, but also a youth program made up of educational activities and “outside the walls” interventions, in university and school environments.
