The singer Ahmed Hashem follows in the footsteps of Al-Nour Al-Jilani and was influenced from a young age by the artist Bob Marley and tried to form an artistic personality similar to him.
He began singing in the city of Atbara in the Solidarity Club, then He joined the Folk Singing Arts Union in Atbara, then moved to Khartoum in 1990 and joined the Khartoum West and Al-Sajana Youth Center, and in 2010 he was accepted as a member of the Omdurman Folk Singing Art Union. Would you tell us about your participation in the Board Festival?
The American Board Festival next month. I have expressed my approval, and Allah willing, I will provide you with the details as soon as I receive them.
Does this mean that it is in the beginning stage?
Yes.. I was only contacted to participate and obtain approval.
Do you have a story about the war?
I have been residing in Cairo for three years. I did not attend the war, which is an unfortunate matter, as it harmed the country and the citizen.
As long as you are stable, is your artistic activity also stable?
I am continuing my artistic activity in Cairo, but after the war the activity declined a little.
what are you doing now?
Currently, I am working on forming a modern popular band, accompanying musical instruments and adding the mandelin.
Within the framework of the development of popular art?
It is not development in the sense, because the idea already exists.
It was first started by Al-Nour Al-Jilani. We are on the path.
Is the singer Nour Al-Jilani your role model in form and content?
Yes, certainly, may Allah grant him good health.
Don’t you feel that you are weak despite your stability?
Yes, this is supposed to be, but the state of the country and your family is in the middle of war, I don’t think you can do anything.
You have artistic contributions in Egypt?
Yes, I participated in live Egyptian concerts in the tourist area of Dahab at the invitation of my brother, the Egyptian artist Becca. Praise be to Allah, it was satisfied with the audience.
Is the Sudanese song understandable and digestible for them?
In fact, there is difficulty because the style was new to them.
It is said that the Sudanese singer abroad sings only for the Sudanese audience, is it true?
This is not true, and I am witness to the interaction of Egyptians and foreigners. Especially in the rhythms of samba and biography.
For you, long hair is a Sufi method or an artistic style?
Artistic method: I am from middle school. I am influenced by the late artist Bob Marley.
It was affected only in form and not in the type and nature of singing, correct?
He was affected by everything.
