Linda Greenfield: The Generals Should lay down Their Weapons and Return to the Negotiations
Agencies – Sudan Events
US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that the two Generals should lay down their weapons and return to the negotiating table to end the war against the people of Sudan – as she described it.
Greenfield said in her comment on a question on the United States’ concerns about the possibility of Iran interfering in the ongoing war in Sudan and providing weapons to the Sudanese Survey Forces, and the fear that Iran will become a security threat in the Horn of Africa region.
She said, “We are concerned about any support for these two generals to continue this war against The people of Sudan, and we have made that clear across the board.
What the two generals need to do is lay down their weapons and to return the negotiating table and find a solution. There will be no military solution to this war.
We are seeing thousands of people dying on both sides. We have seen 6 million people forced to Leave their homes.”
“I visited Chad last year, went to the border, and spoke to the refugees who fled,” she added. “Chad hosts more than a million refugees, many of them from the first war that broke out and led to it being classified as genocide. So to see this happen again is unimaginable.” Reasonable.
Therefore, those who are helping these two generals fight this war against the people of Sudan must stop these efforts, and the generals must go and negotiate a final agreement with the civilians at the table with them.”
