The Sudanese Embassy in Paris, as well as the Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, was recently bestowed with a prestigious certificate of registration and accreditation. The certificate recognizes and acknowledges the processions and celebrations associated with the Prophet’s Birthday in Sudan, which have now been officially included in the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for the Cultural Sector extended hearty congratulations to the Sudanese Ambassador to Paris, along with his Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Dr. Khaled Muhammad Farah, for this remarkable achievement, which serves as a testament to Sudan’s rich cultural heritage.

Importantly, it should be noted that the elevation of the processions and celebrations of the Prophet’s Birthday in Sudan to the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was agreed upon during the UNESCO meeting held in Botswana last December.

This momentous occasion calls for great celebration and recognition as Sudan artfully preserves and showcases an age-old tradition that holds immense significance to its people.

This formal recognition adds yet another feather to Sudan’s cap, further solidifying its position as a custodian of cultural diversity and heritage not just within its own borders but on a global stage.
