The Red Cross Leads Militia Surrender Negotiations
Agencies – Sudan Events
The Red Cross has begun negotiations with a group of Rapid Support Forces that had occupied the radio station since the beginning of the war on April 14, 2023, after they expressed a desire to surrender to the armed forces through a negotiation process, due to the siege imposed on them for more than a month. A military source confirmed that they agreed to the Red Cross’s invitation to negotiate due to the presence of several hostages in the radio and television station. He said that, upon the request of the Red Cross, they postponed the storming operation that had been scheduled for last week. He mentioned that the request of those forces to leave the radio and television station with their weapons was rejected by the field commanders there.
The armed forces and special task groups, now stationed 500 meters south of the television station, have tightened the siege on the radio station areas from the west and north, completely cutting off supplies to those besieged inside the radio and television building. Another group besieged in the house of Mr. Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi expressed a desire to surrender, but the Red Cross has not yet reached an agreement with them, as the source reported.
