The Federation of Chambers of Commerce begins operating the electronic documentation system
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The emergency office of the Federation of Sudanese Chambers of Commerce, which has been based in Port Sudan since May 2023, was emptied a month after the outbreak of the damning war sparked by the rebel Rapid Support militia.
An electronic system for documenting and issuing certificates of origin for Sudanese exports and an electronic system for issuing membership in chambers of commerce using QR code technology has been completed.
The process of electronic documentation of certificates of origin is considered an advanced step in keeping pace with the work of counterpart chambers of commerce after the serial numbers of certificates of origin were approved in a previous step, which before the war did not have serial numbers, causing them to be copied outside the Chambers of Commerce, errors to occur, and some people to use them in illegal smuggling operations.
In the electronic documentation system, the barcode system will be used to electronically scan the certificate of origin data, including clarification of the type of commodity, its weight, the exporting and importing party, and electronic signatures and seals within the system in one step that will help facilitate the procedure and add security to the certificates of origin, considering them as a passport for the Sudanese commodity.
