Imposing New Fees on Exports
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
Exporters were surprised when the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) imposed new fees on exports, under the name (inspection fees).
Head of Gum Arabic Exporters Division, Ahmed Al-Anan, revealed in his interview to Sudan Events that the SSMO imposed new fees, other than the fees imposed for analyzing samples.
Pointing out that the specifications used to charge SDGs 9,000 for the certificate regardless of the quantity (the quantity of the certificate is 20 tons/60 tons/500 tons/1000 tons), but today the fees for 500 tons have reached 5 million (5 billion).
Annan said today that the SSMO insisted on paying these fees and confirmed that it was a decision issued by the Minister of Finance.
The SSMO informed the exporters that there was no option but to pay the fees, and allowed them to write a letter stating that they had an objection to submit to the Ministry of Finance.
Al-Annan described the imposition of new fees as hindering exports and described them as “customs on exports.”
Al-Annan complained about the absence of a unified body for exporters to defend their rights, and considered it to have made all state institutions attack exports without taking into consideration situations of the exporters.
