Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

Finance Minister Jibril Ibrahim Mohamed has pledged to overcome the challenges and obstacles facing the Railway Authority’s performance.
During his meeting with the Minister of Transport, Abu Bakr Abu Al-Qasim, and the Director-General of the Railway Authority, Walid Mahmoud, he promised to work to remove any injustice that may have occurred to railway workers in applying the approved salary structure.
The Railway Authority announced
An operational plan includes reopening railway lines to transport goods through safe sectors extending from the Ashkit and Halfa crossing to Shendi and Khartoum in the south, and from Kassala and Gedaref to the assembly area in Haya in the Red Sea State, with the aim of enhancing the transport of goods at low costs, especially for long distances, as well as supporting the transport of Humanitarian aid and relief.
The meeting discussed investment and development plans for the main stations to increase revenues and deal with the encroachments of some states on the Authority’s property and lands, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Issues related to weak salaries and proposals to improve service conditions were also raised in light of the Authority’s weak revenues and its inability to cover its expenses and salaries from its own resources.
The attendees agreed that any wage increase should be in line with adjustments to the state’s general wage structure, taking into account the Cabinet’s decision to freeze wage increases.
The meeting emphasized the importance of the role of the Railway Authority in the national economy and the necessity of restructuring it to enhance its administrative, commercial, and investment role. The need to explore operating opportunities through partnerships with qualified companies through the bot system to improve services and increase revenues was emphasized, in addition to considering expanding revenue sources through the agent system for transporting goods, to ensure coverage of operational expenses, improve conditions of service and salaries, and supply the surplus to the public treasury of the state.
