Riz Khan Discusses Implications of Raisi’s Death, ICC Arrest Warrants

It’s been an eventful week in the news with the unexpected death of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday in a helicopter crash that took seven other lives – including that of the Iranian foreign minister.
English’s Riz Khan looked into the consequences this will have on Iran’s political structure and succession plans for the next Supreme Leader, as 63-year-old Raisi was the main candidate slated to succeed 85-year-old Ali Khamenei.
As for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague has applied for arrest warrants for key members of the Israeli and Hamas leadership.
The move, which also targets Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has divided many countries along lines defined by their support for Israel – whose leadership has urged what it called “nations of the civilized world” to oppose the request for the arrest warrants.
This episode will look at the different perspectives regarding this dramatic move and the subsequent reactions, with analysis on what it means for the leaderships of Israel and Hamas.
To discuss this week’s major news, Riz Khan was joined by former British Ambassador to Iran Sir Richard Dalton, lawyers Francis Boyl, Alan Dershowitz and Tayab Ali.
