Washington: The Militias Approaching to Commit a Massacre

Sudan Events – Agencies

The representative of the United States mission to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas, said that the recent Security Council meeting was held to address the situation in Sudan, which has been suffering from widespread destruction, mass atrocities, and a humanitarian crisis of catastrophic levels over the past thirteen months.
Linda added, “Here is history repeating itself, two decades after the genocide that claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Darfur residents.” The Rapid Support Forces continue to tighten their siege of El Fasher, fueling military escalation, blocking vital lifelines and bringing these forces closer to committing a large-scale massacre that we have not witnessed since the beginning of the conflict. The United States has already begun imposing sanctions on the military commanders responsible for these operations, and the Rapid Support Forces must withdraw their forces from El Fasher or face further consequences.”
She added, “There are five million Sudanese on the brink of famine, and tens of millions more need emergency food. The armed forces must immediately open the Adre border crossing and remove all obstacles to humanitarian operations to provide access to communities in need.”
Linda revealed that the external supporters of the two warring parties continue to send weapons to Sudan, in flagrant violation of the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations, “thus prolonging the war, dividing the country, and destabilizing the region.” Any individual or country that continues to provide support to either side bears responsibility for the atrocities they commit,” she said, stressing that the Sudanese people have endured enormous suffering because of the two warring parties that continue to plunge the country into a spiral of death and despair, and this nonsensical violence and suffering must stop.
