Finance Minister Denies Sudan Facing Famine

Finance Minister Dr. Jibril Ibrahim reiterated that the country is not suffering from famine but rather a problem in food distribution.
He affirmed while meeting the Japanese envoy to the Horn of Africa, Shinsuke Shimizu, that there is sufficient food production, noting that Sudan only needs production inputs for food production without the need for food aid from abroad.
The minister welcomed the appointment of a Japanese envoy to the Horn of Africa region, and affirmed the importance of his presence despite the difficulty of the mission due to tensions in the region.
He pointed to the good relations and mutual respect between Japan and the African continent, which facilitates the envoy’s mission given that Japan has no colonial history in the region.
He provided an explanation of the causes and repercussions of the war and the efforts made to end it through dialogue between the various civil forces at home and abroad, referring to the Cairo conference scheduled to be held in the coming days.
For his part, the Japanese envoy revealed that his country has allocated $150 million to the Horn of Africa, and announced that JICA will return to work in Sudan soon if the security situation in the country improves, affirmed the importance of the Horn of Africa region and the Japanese government’s interest in resolving conflicts there, particularly in Sudan, and called for a ceasefire through direct talks.
The minister pointed out that the war requires understanding the reality of Sudan and the nature of the conflict, affirming that the Rapid Support Forces RSF militias are a tribal force loyal to the tribe and family, and said that the Sudanese government has been calling for peace since the beginning of the war, and that the continued external support for the militias from the UAE and some neighboring countries contributed to the expansion of the war and the destruction of the country, and called for the importance of Japan and the world community to intervene to uncover and stop this interference.
The minister called on Japan to participate in the post-war reconstruction and reconstruction phase as a strategic partner, and to enter into projects through the BOT system, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and the construction of roads, airports, ports, water and power stations.
