Five people, including two humanitarian volunteers, were killed and others sustained serious injuries on Tuesday when a drone strike targeted the town of Bamna inside Chadian territory, near the Sudanese border, according to a medical source and a local statement.
A medical source in Chad told Darfur24 that the strike targeted a gathering point sheltering Sudanese refugees in the town. It killed five people and injured several others, some of whom were in critical condition and required urgent surgery.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Response Rooms Council in El Tina locality, North Darfur State, said in a statement seen by Darfur24 that two volunteers and three refugees had been killed. It identified the volunteers as Al-Hadi Sandal Issa, coordinator of the Bamna Emergency Response Room, and Adam Omda Arja, a member of the Programs Office.
The council noted that a complete communications blackout had hampered efforts to monitor the situation and check on the injured. It warned that attacks on populated areas and refugee shelters were worsening civilian suffering, calling for the protection of residents and humanitarian workers and for aid to be allowed to reach those in need safely.
