Police Operation in Cologne Following Explosion

German newspaper Bild reported on Monday that police are currently conducting an operation following an explosion in downtown Cologne.
The local police posted on the social media platform X that a police operation is underway on one of the ring roads and urged residents to avoid the area, according to Reuters.
A police spokeswoman said the area between Rudolfplatz and Friesenplatz in Hohenzollernring has been widely cordoned off, adding that security forces are currently present in large numbers.
No information has yet been released about possible injuries or the cause of the explosion. Early reports from “Radio Cologne” mentioned that one person was slightly injured in the explosion.
A fire department spokesperson said firefighters were called to the scene, but no firefighting was required.
