New Governor for West Darfur Sworn in Amid Tensions

Bahar Al-Din Adam Karama was sworn in as the new governor of West Darfur on Monday before General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
During his inauguration, Governor Karama expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and emphasized his commitment to working with the Darfur Regional Government to restore stability to the region. He praised the efforts of the armed forces, joint forces, and local resistance groups for their resilience in defending the state.
Karama also pledged to continue the fight against the rebel insurgency and commended the sacrifices of fallen soldiers, particularly paying tribute to the late West Darfur governor, Khamis Abdullah Abkar, who had also been a prominent leader in the Sudanese coalition. He stressed the importance of national unity in supporting the military’s efforts to eradicate rebel militias and maintain Sudan’s sovereignty.
