Gedarif Farmers Demand the Opening of Sorghum Exports

Sudan Events – Reports
Farmers in Gedarif State have complained about the high production costs and agricultural input fees for the current farming season. They have called on the government to ensure the availability of harvest supplies and to provide fair prices to reward their efforts in farming.
Ahmed Abdel Rahim Al-Awad, Chairman of the Committee of Authorized Farmers in Gedarif, said during a meeting with the federal Minister of Agriculture as part of his visit to the state that the committee presented a number of issues faced by farmers during the current agricultural season, including problems with the harvest.
He highlighted various challenges such as labor issues, marketing, and fuel supply. Al-Awad mentioned that the committee discussed with the minister the purchase of strategic reserves, the involvement of banks in marketing and purchasing crops, and the opening of sorghum exports.
He added that while the season faced some initial difficulties, these were overcome due to the country’s current situation. The minister showed responsiveness in resolving the issues, including labor availability and the opening of sorghum exports to prevent the farmers’ production from going to waste.
