Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has expressed his readiness to mediate the ongoing conflict in Sudan if the Sudanese army and the RSF are open to dialogue.
During a meeting with the UN envoy to Sudan at the presidential palace in Entebbe, Museveni said, “I am ready to mediate the conflict if they agree.”
He emphasized his commitment to joining efforts to restore peace in Sudan, stressing that the root cause of the conflict lies in the promotion of identity politics, which destabilizes a diverse country like Sudan.
Museveni urged the warring factions to agree to a ceasefire and transfer power to the Sudanese people.
The UN envoy to Sudan, Ramadan Lamamra, assured Museveni of the UN’s full support for resolving the conflict.
Lamamra stated, “If there is anything the UN can do to help restore peace in Sudan, please involve us. We are ready and willing to work with you.”
The UN envoy also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, noting that while efforts have been made to ensure local ceasefires, fighting continues, and civilians remain at risk.
He added, “Despite the ongoing conflict and the flow of weapons to both sides, there is still an opportunity to move forward and secure a ceasefire to address urgent humanitarian needs.”
