Sudan Events – Follow-ups
On Tuesday, the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met with the director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), alongside the Minister of Interior and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a press statement, the IOM director noted that the number of Sudanese refugees due to the ongoing war has reached record highs. She indicated that while the organization provides significant assistance, it is insufficient given the large number of displaced Sudanese who have lost their homes, jobs, and livelihoods.
The director mentioned her meetings with officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior to improve coordination for refugee services and resources.
She described the meeting with the Chairman of the Sovereign Council as productive and constructive.
The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Khalil Basha Sayrin, noted that the director’s visit aims to assess the humanitarian situation on the ground, offer assistance to those in need, and address the large number of Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries. He expressed hope that her visit would help improve the humanitarian situation resulting from internal displacement and cross-border refuge.
