Launching of Egyptian Fava Bean Cultivation in Nile River State

Nile River State’s Minister of Agriculture, Salah Ali Mohamed Ahmed, launched a project to cultivate Egyptian fava beans on 4,000 acres at the Al-Aliyeeb Agricultural Project, in partnership with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Food Specialty Agricultural Services, and other local agricultural agencies. During the inauguration, the minister emphasized the importance of winter crop production to meet food needs, particularly in light of ongoing food shortages. Food Specialty’s General Manager Munther Mohamed Hamdan highlighted the company’s efforts to support small farmers in Nile River State to increase productivity and provide food for displaced populations. Agricultural Research Center Director Dr. Ashraf Al-Hashmi underscored the significance of fava beans as a staple and praised support for research and development in agricultural production.
