Dortmund Looks Ahead to Bayern Match After Win in Champions League
Borussia Dortmund, the German football team, does not have enough time to celebrate their 3-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Wednesday. The team must quickly shift their focus to the upcoming Bundesliga showdown against Bayern Munich, scheduled for Saturday.
However, Dortmund’s coach, Nuri Şahin, wants to take a moment to acknowledge the team’s achievement.
He said to DAZN: “We can talk about the league when the time comes. For now, I’m happy that we are in the top spots in the Champions League.”
The win against Zagreb pushed Dortmund into 4th place in the group stage with three matches remaining, marking the first time the league phase system has been implemented. The top 8 teams will directly advance to the Round of 16.
Defender Nico Schlotterbeck said: “We controlled the game. We are very happy… we have 12 points from 5 matches, which is really good, and that’s why we go back home feeling good.” He added: “Now we have to recover to put up a good match against Bayern.”
Dortmund only managed to end a long winless streak against Bayern last season, a stretch that dated back to 2019. Now, the team is hoping to secure their second consecutive win over Bayern, the most successful club in Bundesliga history.
Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel stated: “We are looking forward to the Bayern match, it will be a great battle.”
However, Dortmund may be without midfielder Julian Brandt, who left the field at halftime against Zagreb due to an apparent injury.
Şahin said: “I hope Brandt’s injury isn’t serious. I think it will be difficult for him to make it to the Bayern game.”
