Salah Open to Extending Liverpool Contract by One Year
Mohamed Salah is open to signing a one-year extension with Liverpool but is reportedly frustrated by the club’s handling of negotiations.
According to The Athletic, the Egyptian forward is awaiting clarity from Liverpool regarding the length and terms of a potential new deal amid interest from major European clubs for a free transfer at the end of the season. Salah is unable to discuss terms with other clubs until January 1, when he will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with non-English teams.
Sources familiar with the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Liverpool has refrained from commenting on the matter. Salah, however, has expressed frustration at the slow pace of discussions, feeling uncertain whether the club will meet his expectations.
The forward, who helped Liverpool defeat Southampton last month, has expressed his commitment to staying at Anfield but insists any new contract should reflect his status as one of the world’s best players.
Salah has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists in 20 matches this season. His latest contributions include setting up Cody Gakpo’s opening goal against Manchester City and converting a second-half penalty in a 2-0 victory.
Salah’s current deal, signed in 2022, makes him Liverpool’s highest-paid player, reportedly earning £350,000 per week, with additional performance-related bonuses. Despite turning 33 next summer, Salah believes he can maintain his peak form and achieve his ambitions of winning the Premier League and Champions League with Liverpool.
The club reportedly rejected a £150 million bid for Salah from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023.
