Sudan Events – Agencies
The US Department of State’s official spokesperson announced that the US Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, will visit Doha, Nairobi, London, and Nouakchott in a tour starting Friday, “continuing diplomatic efforts to increase humanitarian aid for the people of Sudan, deter atrocities and arms flows, and coordinate efforts to end the conflict in Sudan.”
The statement added that, based on recent progress that expanded humanitarian access to Sudan and within the country, the envoy will meet with key government officials, representatives of the African Union, Arab League, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the United Nations, NGOs, Sudanese representatives, and civil society groups to highlight the urgent need for warring parties to allow additional UN humanitarian centers to facilitate aid distribution throughout Sudan.
The envoy will also discuss ways to enable humanitarian corridors that ensure safe, unhindered movement for civilians and humanitarian aid, and improve the protection of civilians, including women and girls who face gender-based violence.
