Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Minister of Energy and Oil and the Minister of Foreign Affairs agreed to collaborate in order to restore strategic cooperation with China and to allow Russian companies to enter Sudan’s energy and oil sector.
On Thursday, Minister of Energy and Oil Dr. Mohieldin Naeem Mohamed Said met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Ali Youssef, at his office.
The meeting discussed the expansion of Chinese and Russian investments in the energy and oil sectors.
Minister Dr. Mohieldin Naeem Mohamed Said said, “I visited both China and Russia last month, where I met with the Russian Minister of Energy and several Russian and Chinese companies. Russian companies are expected to arrive to continue what we started in Moscow regarding investment in oil, gas, and electricity.” He added that Sudan has only utilized about 20% of its oil reserves and has three blocks with indications of natural gas. He emphasized the ministry’s readiness to restore strategic cooperation with China and open the door for Russian companies to invest in energy and oil.
On his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Youssef, said that work is underway to prepare a plan to restore strategic cooperation with China. He stated that they will work with the Minister of Energy and Oil on this plan to develop the partnership with China in the petroleum sector, as well as with the Russian Federation, and that the next phase will witness significant activity with the arrival of large Russian companies to invest in Sudan.
