Plant Protection Department in Gedaref Raises Concerns Over Delayed Worker Payments

Sudan Events – Reports
The Director of Plant Protection in Gedaref State, Al-Fatih Al-Nour Abdullah, has highlighted challenges facing the department, including a three-month delay in workers’ salaries, amounting to over 10 billion Sudanese pounds.
He noted that preparations for the 2024-2025 agricultural season began early, with successful pest control operations carried out despite obstacles such as inadequate transportation, fuel shortages, and limited provisions.
Al-Nour emphasized the department’s strategic importance to food security and called on the accounts department to expedite payments. While the governor of Gedaref has granted an exception for salary disbursements, and the finance ministry has approved the checks, the accounts department continues to prioritize other expenditures, delaying the process.
He added that the central plant protection administration has provided significant technical support, including two spraying aircraft, pesticides, and pumps.
