Sudanese Banks’ Union Welcomes Extension of Currency Exchange Period
Sudan Events – Updates
The Sudanese Banks’ Union welcomed the decision to extend the currency exchange period by one week, until December 30, to enable citizens to complete the process. In Sennar State, however, the deadline remains December 31.
The Union explained in a press release that the extension aims to accommodate the country’s circumstances and protect citizens’ rights by granting them sufficient time to complete the exchange process. Regarding Khartoum State, the committee announced that in the coming days, a timeline will be presented for depositing the 1,000 and 500-pound banknotes without exchange.
The Union praised citizens’ strong response and their enthusiasm for opening accounts and depositing funds in recent days. It encouraged citizens to take advantage of this opportunity and quickly visit the nearest bank branch to open accounts and deposit funds. Bank branches will remain open until 6 PM, including on holidays, to facilitate the exchange process.
