The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, announced that the government has directed all ministries and government institutions to refrain from accepting any cash payments from individuals or legal entities. Instead, they are to comply with receiving payments via electronic and banking channels approved by the Central Bank of Sudan, to facilitate transactions and avoid the risks of direct cash dealings.
During his visit to the Central Bank of Sudan’s branch in Port Sudan on Monday, where he met with the Governor of the Central Bank, Birei Sidiq Ali, the Minister emphasized that the currency exchange process is close to achieving its objectives. He urged banks to attract the public and encourage them to open accounts to deposit their money. He wished that the remaining week of the exchange process would serve as an opportunity for citizens to go to banks and complete the procedures for opening accounts and depositing their funds.
For his part, the Governor of the Central Bank, Birei Sidiq, confirmed the bank’s readiness and preparations to complete the currency exchange process within the scheduled period.
