Support from the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development to Sudan’s Agricultural Quarantine

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development has provided Sudan’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry with laboratory equipment, including a Cooled Incubator, PCR Thermal Cycler Machine, and a Laminar Flow Cabinet (Biosafety Cabinet), to support the agricultural quarantine management at Port Sudan Port, which is part of the Federal Plant Protection Department. This initiative aims to bolster Sudan’s agricultural sector in response to the challenges posed by the war that began in April 2023.

The value of the provided equipment is approximately 17,000 USD and is part of a series of development projects the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development is implementing in various Arab countries affected by conflict and environmental challenges.

This equipment is a significant addition to Sudan’s agricultural quarantine laboratories, enhancing the capacity of these institutions across the Arab world and contributing to the reduction of transboundary plant diseases and pests.

The initiative is especially important given the current exceptional circumstances in Sudan, necessitating intensified efforts to support food and plant security in the country.

The Sudanese Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry expressed its deep gratitude to the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development for this generous support, which strengthens Sudan’s ability to tackle plant protection challenges, particularly during these difficult times.
