31 Tons of Expired Goods Destroyed in Kassala

The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Authority in Kassala State, in cooperation with the High Committee for Consumer Protection, local health authorities, livestock departments, economic security, and customs, carried out an inspection campaign targeting goods in the state.
Violations, including mislabeled goods and poor storage conditions, were identified. In a commendable move, a trader voluntarily requested the destruction of 2,023 cartons of expired tomato paste, reflecting the positive impact of ongoing public awareness programs on reporting expired goods.
Ahmed Abdelmajid Al-Kindo, Acting Director of the Kassala branch, emphasized the Authority’s commitment to covering all local markets, urging consumers to promptly report expired or non-compliant goods. He promised continued specialized campaigns, increased consumer awareness, and proper handling of food items. Consumers were encouraged to report violations via the hotline 5960.
