Agricultural Delegation Visits Delta to Observe Watermelon Seed Harvest

A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, led by the National Coordinator for Producers’ Organizations, Engineer Omar Taha, and the Director-General of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in the Red Sea State, Osman Awad, and the Director of Extension at the Tokar Project, Abdul Qadir Ohaj, visited the Delta to observe the harvest of watermelon seeds (snacks) by the Abu Slafa Production Association. This is the first time in the Delta that 1,000 acres have been cultivated using technology and mechanical harvesting, in collaboration with an investor.

Engineer Omar confirmed to SUNA that the productivity is high according to the harvesting processes witnessed.

On another note, a lecture was given to members of the associations, particularly the women’s groups, on the importance of associations and indicators of their success, by the national coordinator of the associations. He promised to provide support to them, especially in training and funding.

The delegation also discussed the challenges faced by producers in marketing and visited organic vegetable fields in the Delta.
