Brazil and Argentina were defeated by Colombia and Uruguay, in Copa America and World Cup qualifiers early Friday.
Brazil did not recover from its defeat against Uruguay in the last round, losing again to Colombia by two goals to one.
Brazil surprised its host, Colombia, with an early goal by Gabriel Martinelli, assisted by Vinicius Junior, before the latter left due to injury.
In the second half, Liverpool star Luis Diaz returned to the match in Colombia, by scoring the equalizer and then the winning goal in front of his father, who shed tears days after he was freed from the grip of a gang that kidnapped him.
In another match, Argentina suffered its first defeat since the defeat against the Saudi national team in the World Cup in Qatar 2022.
Despite playing at home and in front of its fans, Argentina’s performance was not convincing, and Uruguay took advantage of that by scoring two goals through Ronaldo Araujo and Darwin Nunez.
Despite the loss, Argentina maintained its lead in the qualifiers with 12 points, and Uruguay rose behind it with 10 points, followed by Colombia with nine, and Venezuela with eight, while Brazil ranked fifth with only seven points.
