Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, warned that the humanitarian and health situation in Sudan is getting worse due to security and economic instability, pointing out that people in Sudan are in need for medical assistance, especially in Darfur.
Ghebreyesus made the remarks during a recorded speech today, Saturday, while addressing activities of the Humanitarian Issues Conference in Sudan 2023, organized in Cairo, to discuss issues related to the sectors of social protection, food security, health system, and gender-based sexual violence during conflict, in addition to the logistical obstacles to the arrival and distribution of humanitarian aid in Sudan. He noted that the humanitarian situation in Sudan is getting worse due to security and economic instability, explaining that the organization is working to increase awareness of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, and to provide medical and humanitarian assistance to people in need.
Ghebreyesus added that WHO calls on all concerned parties to work together to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
