Economists have warned against the negative effects of huge money transfers through banking applications “Bankak, Fawry and Okash” on Sudanese economy. They considered this practice a major reason for encouraging black market and collapse of the value of the Sudanese pound.
It also contributes in the spread looting operations in Khartoum as a result of the war between the Sudanese army SAF and the Rapid Support RSF militia.
The Business Federation has urged the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces SAF and Head of the Transitional Sovereign Council TSC Lt. Gen. Abdul Fatah Al-Burhan, to order stoppage of payments through the banking applications “Bankuk, Fawry and Okash” until a review of accounts and checking of source of the funds in the banking system and outside the banking system, have been conducted.
A member of the grouping Muawiyah Al-Sayed said during a discussion of the issued within their WhatsApp group, that major looting practices have occurred against citizens, banks, factories, and companies, affirming that this measure will stop buying and selling operations and help in the flushing out the thieves out.
In late September 2023, the Central Bank of Sudan CBS issued a decision limiting transfers in applications to SDGs 6 million per day and SDGs 100 million per month.
