Sudanese Students Abroad… between War and Non-access to Dollar

The closure of Sudanese universities after the outbreak of war forced many students to enroll in Egyptian universities, as the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the initial candidacy to study in Egyptian universities and institutes for the 2023/2024 academic year.
The tuition fees for the College of Medicine were set at US$ 1,800 per year.
Student Aseel Awad Al-Karim pointed out that university fees and the rest of the procedures had been doubled, as the price of the medical examination had reached (20) dollars in addition to an imposition of (25) dollars for a registration certificate, (26) dollars for annual residency fees, (150) dollars for expatriate club subscription fees, in addition to the textbook fee (1200) Egyptian pounds and the medical examination stands at (250) Egyptian pounds.
Below are the students of the College of Nursing. Student Marwa Mohammed Al-Amin pointed out that the annual fees amount to US$1,200, in addition Expatriate fees (initial candidacy), including (US$170) for the coordination service and the renewal of the qualification (varies from one student to another for each year of delaying a certificate) (US$300), in addition to (US$150) for subscribing to the Expatriate Student Clubs Fund.
The fees for university registration services (US$1,500).
Master’s students follow several steps to document the equalization at the Sudanese Embassy, then the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the equalization is required at the central library for fees ranging between (50-100) Egyptian pounds.
Parents of students complained about the rise in the rates of fees imposed on students and their suffering in obtaining dollars in light of the economic deterioration and the war that created unemployment and the cessation of production. At the same time, they praised the Sudanese expatriates and said that without the assistance of those Sudanese expatriates, their children would not have continued their studies abroad.
