U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty discussed “the importance of a transition to civilian rule in Sudan,” State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said.
Meeting in Washington, the two top diplomats also reviewed their countries’ shared objectives in “advancing peace and security in the Middle East.”
Bruce added in a statement that Rubio “thanked Foreign Minister Abdel Aaty for Egypt’s unwavering support in securing the release of hostages held by Hamas.”
