Defense Industries Begin Production of Solar-Powered Equipment

Minister of Industry and Trade Mahasin Ali Yaqoub praised the significant role played by the Defense Industries System (DIS) in supporting the national economy through import substitution, reducing dependence on imports, and addressing industrial challenges.
In a meeting with a DIS delegation led by Deputy Director-General Al-Jaili Taj al-Din and Export Development Group CEO Hossam al-Din Bashir, the minister described the defense industries as a “towering edifice” and a “source of pride” for Sudan, highlighting their production capabilities and contribution to the economy. She called for greater visibility of the system’s projects and endorsed the export of value-added manufactured products rather than raw exports.
Al-Jaili Taj al-Din stressed their focus on industrial exports by leveraging regional comparative advantages, pointing to projects in River Nile State that produce oils, dried onions, and fruit concentrates. He further confirmed their commitment to agricultural processing, private-sector engagement through contract farming, and the launch of solar-powered electrical devices and equipment. He also announced preparations to revive production at the Haj Abdullah textile factory under a strategic plan.
