Sudan Plans to Launch Digital Pound

Sudan’s Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications, Ahmed Dardiri Gandour, met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amina Mirghani Hassan Al-Tom, in her first official visit since assuming office.

The meeting came as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to build an integrated and secure digital ecosystem that serves citizens and strengthens the national economy.

The Minister emphasized that the primary goal is to enhance coordination between executive and financial institutions to achieve a clear vision for digital transformation. Both sides discussed several strategic projects, most notably linking the national platform “Baldna” with the Central Bank’s systems to create a unified and secure gateway for financial and government services.

They also reviewed the development of a national cybersecurity framework for the banking sector to ensure data protection and strengthen stability. In addition, they discussed the upcoming launch of the unified government payment application “SUDAPAY”, which aims to streamline government transactions and improve public services.

The Minister revealed future plans to introduce a digital Sudanese pound, aligning with global economic trends. He stressed that these initiatives form part of the government’s broader institutional transformation strategy to establish a modern digital system founded on efficiency, governance, and integration.
