Washington Condemns RSF Atrocities in El Fasher, Calls for Accountability

The U.S. Department of State on Saturday condemned what it described as “horrific mass atrocities” committed by the RSF in El Fasher, North Darfur, targeting innocent civilians.

In an urgent statement, the department expressed deep concern over reports of widespread attacks in recent days that resulted in heavy civilian casualties, including women and children, as well as summary executions, looting, and assaults on medical and humanitarian facilities.

Washington said the situation constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, demanding that RSF forces immediately halt their attacks, protect civilians, and allow unimpeded humanitarian access.

The statement emphasized the need for accountability, affirming that the U.S. and its partners are monitoring the situation closely and will take necessary steps to ensure that perpetrators do not escape justice.

The condemnation comes amid growing international pressure to end the violence in Darfur, where El Fasher faces catastrophic humanitarian conditions as fighting continues and aid remains cut off from hundreds of thousands of trapped civilians.
