Karim Khan, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), announced Monday that the Court retains jurisdiction over crimes committed in Darfur, confirming that investigations into alleged atrocities in El Fasher are ongoing.
Khan expressed deep concern over reports of killings, rapes, and other crimes allegedly perpetrated by RSF forces, which declared control over the city at the end of October after a prolonged siege.
He emphasized that, if proven, these acts could constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The ICC is currently gathering evidence related to the alleged crimes for potential prosecutions, Khan said, calling on individuals and organizations with relevant information to come forward and assist the investigation.
He affirmed that the ICC has been conducting intensive inquiries into atrocities committed since the outbreak of fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF in April 2023.
