Senior IOM Official Visits Sudan to Highlight Humanitarian Crisis

Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), arrived in Port Sudan on a visit aimed at drawing attention to the country’s deepening humanitarian crisis.

In a post on the platform X, Pope said she came to Sudan to “shine a light on the humanitarian crisis, where more than 30 million people are in need of assistance.”

Upon arrival, she visited the “Shamaa” Center in Port Sudan, praising its team for supporting survivors of gender-based violence and human trafficking, particularly young mothers and girls.

“The IOM is proud to stand by them. Lifesaving care must continue,” Pope said.

The IOM noted that Pope’s visit reaffirms the agency’s commitment to assisting those affected by conflict and displacement, and highlights ongoing efforts to provide lifesaving humanitarian aid while calling for urgent international action.
