UN Official: Atrocities in Al-Fashir Were Predictable and Should Have Been Prevented

Carl Skau, Deputy Executive Director’s representative at the World Food Programme, expressed “extreme anger” over the atrocities in Al-Fashir, emphasizing that the events were predictable and should have been prevented.

In a tweet on X, the UN official highlighted the “urgent and pressing” need to take serious measures to prevent similar disasters in other parts of Sudan, including Kadugli, which is facing complex humanitarian conditions under siege.

He stressed the immediate lifting of the blockade to allow aid agencies access to those affected, warning that continued isolation accelerates hunger and risks widespread famine if the situation is not urgently addressed.

These warnings come as the humanitarian crisis in Darfur intensifies, amid growing international calls to halt attacks and ensure civilian protection.
