Government Accuses Militia of Smuggling Over $850 Million Worth of Gold to the UAE

A Sudanese government source accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia of exporting large quantities of gold to the United Arab Emirates, saying that authorities possess confirmed information regarding these activities.
According to the source, who spoke to Sudan Tribune, “the value of the gold transported by the RSF from the Darfur and Kordofan regions during 2024 and early this year exceeded $850 million.”
Traditional miners from the town of Songo in South Darfur revealed that Al-Junaid Multi-Activities Company—affiliated with the RSF—has resumed its operations in gold mines in Songo, according to the Darfur 24 news outlet.
Last June, army warplanes launched a series of airstrikes targeting the processing unit, workers’ rest area, and security posts at Al-Junaid Company’s site in the Agbash mine, rendering the facility inoperable.
The miners reported that most of the gold produced in the Songo mines is transported to Chad via the Raheed al-Birdi – Forbranga – Um Dukhun route.
