New Legal Cases Filed Against Militia Leaders

Bashir Mersal, Governor of South Darfur, revealed the formation of a legal committee to file criminal cases against leaders of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for violations and war crimes committed against unarmed civilians.

Speaking at the South Darfur stakeholders’ consultative forum in Port Sudan on Monday, he indicated that displaced persons from South Darfur currently in other states would return to their regions after the rebellion is suppressed.

The governor emphasized the forum’s importance, noting it coincides with the advances of the Armed Forces and their supporting units across several fronts. He said the militia had sought to use South Darfur as a launching pad to destabilize Sudan, and authorities have pledged to reclaim the state from militia control.

Governor Mersal confirmed the detention of 134 traditional administration leaders for their involvement with the rebel militia and the neutralization of numerous civil service employees in the state.
