New Strategy to Advance the Mining Sector

The Ministry of Minerals approved its 2026 strategic plan during an extensive meeting held Thursday, chaired by Minister Nour Al-Daim Mohamed Ahmed Taha. The strategy aims to bring comprehensive development to the mining sector and enhance its contribution to the national economy.

The meeting included the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Dr. Hind Siddig Adam; the Director General of the Geological Research Authority, Ahmed Haroun Al-Toum; the acting Director General of the Sudanese Mining Resources Company; the acting Director General of Ariab Mining Company; the Director General of Sudamin Company; Major General Salah Al-Din Adam, Director of the Mining Security Police; a representative from Mineral Economics Security; and several other stakeholders.

The plan focused on adopting a “green mining” approach to reduce environmental impacts and ensure sustainability, organizing traditional mining and improving its working environment to strengthen its economic role and reduce associated risks.

It also highlighted the expansion of digital systems to strengthen oversight, ensure transparency, control production, and increase the extraction of strategic minerals.

The Ministry affirmed that combating smuggling is a top priority in the 2026 plan, which includes practical measures to curb the phenomenon and protect state resources. The strategy also places special emphasis on supporting local communities in mining regions through service and development projects that enhance the sector’s positive impact on citizens.
