UNICEF Launches Campaign to Vaccinate Half a Million Children Against Polio in Darfur

UNICEF announced a new campaign to vaccinate 500,000 children against polio in Darfur.

The organization stated on its X platform that “vaccination teams will immunize more than 500,000 children under the age of five with oral polio vaccine across Central and Western Darfur this week.”

This marks the second round of the polio vaccination campaign, with each dose providing a shield against a preventable and potentially life-threatening disease.

Previously, on August 26, UNICEF supplied 5.8 million doses of oral polio vaccine to the vaccination center in Al-Jeneina, protecting 2.3 million children under five across 65 areas in the Darfur states.

Central and Northern Darfur continue to face outbreaks of childhood diseases, particularly measles, amid calls for regular immunization campaigns.
