Press reports confirmed on Wednesday evening that the video referees team that managed the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle were excluded from officiating other matches later in the fifth round of the Champions League competitions.
On Tuesday, Kylian Mbappé scored a very controversial penalty kick in the eighth hour of stoppage time, after the Video Assistant Referee decided that there was a handball on Newcastle defender Tino Livramento that warranted a violation.
Polish video referee Tomasz Kwiatkowski called the arena’s referee, Simon Marciniak, to the screen in stoppage time, before the referee awarded the penalty kick for the hosts, through which they scored a 1-1 equalizer.
A large number of critics and fans were angry and confused by the award of a late penalty kick to Paris Saint-Germain, which deprived coach Eddie Howe’s team of achieving a historic victory away from home in the Champions League.
Newcastle was minutes away from a 1-0 victory in the French capital, which would have moved the English team to second place in its group.
