Manchester City Suffer Heavy Defeat in the UEFA Champions League

Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt produced a major shock in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, defeating Manchester City 3–1.

Remarkably, the team that overcame City — former champions of the competition — had never previously recorded a single win in the tournament. The victory over the former European and English champions kept Bodø/Glimt’s slim hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.

Danish striker Kasper Høgh struck twice in quick succession midway through the first half, before Jens Petter Hauge added a superb third goal in the 58th minute, putting the club from north of the Arctic Circle firmly on course for a stunning win.

City pulled one back through Rayan Cherki after an hour of play, but captain Rodri was sent off just two minutes later after receiving two quick yellow cards, effectively ending the visitors’ hopes of a comeback.

Ahead of the remaining matches of the round, City sit fourth in the 36-team league standings with 13 points, while Bodø/Glimt are placed 26th.
